Educational and Social Services

Educational and Social Services covers the two biggest functions of the Council – Social Work and Education.  We deliver services to everyone from babies to senior citizens. We also provide cleaning, catering and other services such as community learning and development.

We constantly work with our partners to improve  and provide the best possible services for our users, some of whom are among the most vulnerable people in East Ayrshire. Our staff all share our commitment to do our best no matter where we work and which service we deliver.

We are responsible for:

  • 9 secondary schools
  • 43 primary schools
  • 4 special schools
  • 33 early childhood centres
  • 3 children's houses
  • 3 adult learning centres
  • 1 adult residential unit
  • 2 resource centres for older people

We also run support establishments which help people with a variety of needs.


Our Education Service comprises the following departments:

Social Work

Social Work concentrates on three key areas:

  • Children and Families  (locality services, family support and young people's services, corporate parenting services)

  • Community Care (locality services, mental health partnership, core services)

  • Criminal Justice
