A renewal of vows ceremony is for any married couple who wish to celebrate renewing their marriage vows in a unique and personal way. Often the ceremony is associated with a special wedding anniversary, such as the 10th, 20th or 40th, but it is just as appropriate for couples at any stage in their marriage. Many couples who get married abroad choose to renew their marriage vows in a special event held for family and friends on their return.
A married couple of any age and married for any length of time can arrange a renewal of marriage vows ceremony. It does not matter if you do not live in the area where you want your ceremony.
The renewal of marriage vows ceremony may contain a number of sections:
-
introduction and welcome
-
acknowledgment of any children of the marriage
-
reading
-
renewal of vows
-
rededication of ring(s)
-
giving of new ring(s) or gift(s)
-
words from previous wedding guest
-
further readings
-
signing of certificate
-
witnesses
-
closing words
The ceremony has no legal status, and is not legally binding on those who participate. It usually lasts around 15 minutes but can be up to 30 minutes if more readings and other options are included.
The ceremony can take place in any registration office or at any of our approved venues.
The fee for the ceremony depends on the day and place, however an initial non-returnable deposit of £55 is required to make a booking, but this will be deducted from the total cost.
All registration offices in East Ayrshire operate an appointment system. Please see the contact details below for further information or to make a booking.
