Cycle paths

There are dedicated cycle lanes and paths throughout East Ayrshire and many are suitable for walking as well as cycling.

The National Cycle Network is a comprehensive network of safe and attractive routes for cycling throughout the UK which follow traffic free paths as much as possible. The rest follow quiet lanes of traffic calmed roads and are co-ordinated by the charity Sustrans.

Two of the National Cycle Network routes pass through East Ayrshire - Dean Castle Country Park has a link route which joins it to the National Cycle Network Route 73. This route provides access from Kilmarnock to Ardrossan and Route 7 passes through the Galloway Forest near Maybole.

The Coalfield Cycle Route is a 70 km cycle route between Dalmellington and Muirkirk. The route follows quiet roads and traffic free paths and will be signed in 2012 as part of East Ayrshire’s Core Path Plan.
