Countryside services

East Ayrshire is set in spectacular countryside with a very distinct identity which proves a tremendous asset for tourism, economic development and recreation.

Following the enactment of the Land Reform Scotland Act (2003) Countryside Services developed the East Ayrshire Core Path Plan. The resulting path network now covers over 700km providing visitors and residents access to the beautiful countryside.

An Open Space Strategy has also been developed which describes how the team’s vision for open space might become a reality and the mechanisms for achieving this. The strategy includes amenity open spaces such as parks and gardens as well as wilder greenspaces.

The team supports communities pursuing greenspace initiatives and works with partners to develop biodiversity initiatives.
