Weights and measures

An Officer checks the measure of a bar optic
Most weighing and measuring equipment in use for trade must meet strict levels of accuracy. Trading Standards Officers regularly test the accuracy of equipment such as petrol pumps, shop scales, weighbridges and pub measures.

The quantities in packaged goods are also controlled and checks are made at both factory and retail level to ensure compliance.

Trading Standards Officers can certify the accuracy or verify a variety of pieces of weighing or measuring equipment for use by trade. The cost of these services can be found by following the link under the further information section.
